Case Study

October 30, 2008 ladystrawberry

Rachael:

Our presentation is public art and for my personal case study I will be looking at THE SURVEILLANCE CAMERA PLAYERS (to do this is will be looking at their processes/aims/products. I will also learn to spell their name.)
The SCP’s believe that cctv cam’s have no purpose and simply serve to study/spy on us and check we are all following ‘the rules’. I think this is interesting just as a start (who makes the rules etc) but i feel the main reason they fit here is that they use well known literature such as Orwell’s 1984 and break them into silent plays which they use as political weapons….

So that’s what I’m doing, I’ll post in more detail soon.

In week seven the times i am NOT free are: MON-2-6

TUES- 10-5

WED 9-1

THURS 4-7

Errr I may scrap this idea. Can anyone tell me – do you think Miranda July’s Learning to Love you more classes as Public Art????? I think so. Surely net is public?? PLUS she’s publishing a book?????? If I can do this I will be. If not back to the players for me…so plleeasse let me know if you think it classes or not THANKS!!! xxx

I’m looking at the way public art is advertised. focussing on, community theatre, art projects and creative writing opportunities. i have no specific companies to look at as such, but i’m hoping to have some more finite research cases by next week.

    i’m not free (week 7) monday -1 tuesday 10-5 weds 9-1 or thursday 1-3.

if anyone can meet next week i think it would be sensible to try to have as many of us together as possible for a catch up of what’s going on and what we are all researching. we can also use the info from others who are absent that’s on the blog to work out how everything will fit together and come up with something along the lines of a preliminary running order etc. Wednesday morning might be a good plan seeing as we all would have had a class then and don’t.

Lara: The Royal Court’s new writing schemes as public art.

I would cover how it(and new writing in general) is by and for the community and therefore an integral part of public art.

For example, I will think about how new writing is accessible to the public and the emphasis the royal court puts on involving the public/community(ex. New writers schemes and workshops)

Wednesday sounds like a good idea for anyone who can, although as long as we keep using the blog we should hopefully be fine.

Week 7: When Lara isnt free:
    Tueday, Wednesday 9-12, saturday

I suggest we meet early monday or monday night cuz the sooner the better really!

a summary of what we should be doing: Draw on debates examined in lecture series (ie PUBLIC ART)
Address the way specific writing has been shaped by the history and development of various creative industries.
Should probably connect directly with AR’s lecture, which is written up on http://rhulcreativewriters.wordpress.com/ under ‘CW3100 Public Funding for the Arts’

    Hey guys,

For our presentation I think I’m going to talk about how public art links in with politics, e.g. how it can be used as propaganda in different countries and how people have/are likely to respond to this. Does this link in with anyone else’s topic?

P.S. The times I am NOT free are:

    Mon: 12-2
    Tue: 2-4
    Wed: 9-12
I’m not free on Thur afternoon or Fri.

    What about everyone else?

I think as long as we all relate this back to what we decided public art is in that week 3 class and in AR lecture all these ideas should be fine!
Vikki is going to be around as of monday, week 7 in the end so i suggest we meet monday at 5pm if thats okay?
EVERYONE PLEASE RESPOND ASAP YES OR NO

Hey – Monday at 5 is fine. I may be slightly hanging though.

For the case study am gonna be looking into Flash Mobs. Tbh I probably won’t have much information on Monday as at the moment am trying desperately to write my dissertation but should be sorted for the class on Wednesday as hopefully the damn thing will be out of the way by then.

SO. That’s a YAY on the monday at 5. Back to the dissertation. xx

monday at six is fine with me. where IS best for meeting? we can’t meet at jules at that time, and i don’t know how good Xlands is for meetings anymore. i’d say either a pub, the library or someone’s house will be our best bet. unless anyone can think of anything else.

I’ll be there at 6 tonight. Sorry for not replying sooner, I’m just having real trouble connecting with this course at all.

I’m looking at doing my case study on poetry slams and though I, too, do not have a huge amount of information yet, I wonder if Rhi and I couldn’t team up to talk about spontaneity in public art during the presentation?
